Legislative Update

The 2011-2012 Legislative Commission has created its “Recommended Legislative
Agenda: Goals and Positions” to present to the CEA Board of Directors. Your representative
on the Legislative Commission is Theresa McKeown, Quest Teacher ~ Bugbee/Braeburn.

The highlights of the Commission’s Report are:

• K - 12 Public School Finance, Professional and Safety Issues
• Teacher Rights / Collective Bargaining
• Retirement Issues

Goals for the 2012 Legislative year include retired teacher health insurance, purchasing
part-time service, out-of-state service, manpower development and training, reducing the
number of years required for retirement without penalty, school technology, special
education funding, tenure, vouchers, early childhood and urban education, indoor air quality
and virtual learning.
